During the Medieval period (590 – 1500 CE) the Feudal System started. It was invented in 800-900 CE by the King of Franks (Charlemagne) in Europe after the fall of the Roman Empire. It was designed so there was order in the land, it was an effective way to make Peasants pay tax, it helped maintain social order and organised society in Europe. It took over hundreds of years for the Feudal System to spread to other countries. The Feudal System ended somewhere in the 15th Century which means (from when it started in the 8th Century) it lasted for about 700 years (7 centuries).
